Having trouble conceiving a child can be absolutely devastating. Unfortunately, talking about fertility troubles and fertility treatment options is also something of a taboo. But several high profile celebrities are taking steps to change that.
Recently, supermodels Chrissy Teigen, 29, and Tyra Banks, 41, shared emotional stories about their ongoing struggles to have children. The women engaged in a frank discussion about infertility on FABLife, a new talk show on ABC, hosted and produced by Banks and featuring Teigen as a round-table commentator. FABLife, short for “fun and beautiful,” airs weekdays as part of the daytime TV lineup.
Teigen and her husband, John Legend, have been trying to conceive — without success — for years now. She reveals that the one of the most difficult things to contend with is others’ insensitivity. Here’s what Teighen had to say about it:
“I can’t imagine being that nosy, like, ?When are the kids coming?’ because who knows what somebody’s going through, who knows if somebody’s struggling?” The co-host continued, “I would say, honestly, John and I were having trouble. We would have had kids five, six years ago if it had happened, but my gosh, it’s been a process.”
Teigen inspired Banks to open up about her own experiences with infertility; a tearful Banks revealed that she is having trouble having children after putting it off for several years.
The good news is that there is hope for Teigen and Banks, as well as couples all around the world who have been trying to have a child unsuccessfully. Couples who struggle to conceive naturally should undergo a fertility evaluation, if they haven’t already. Those who already have shouldn’t give up hope; there are more and more fertility treatments available. Tuboplasty, for example, makes it possible to experience pregnancy after tubal ligation.
Thanks to Banks and Teigen, people are talking about infertility and the treatments to overcome it. Whether these treatments entail in vitro fertilization (IVF) or make it possible to experience pregnancy after tubal ligation, many agree that the most important thing is to be candid about the process. This is a great source for more.
