Sitting in the waiting room for a gynecologist checkup can be an intimidating experience. A person, who you might not have met before, is about to know you very well. Not everyone is happy to visit their gynecologist and that is completely okay.

To ease some of that fear, there are a few things you can do before your appointment to prepare.

First, you need to remember that this is what they do for a living. Whatever is going on with you, you can be confident that it is not the first time they’ve dealt with it. They talk about all of these personal topics on a daily or hourly basis. If they’re not embarrassed, you shouldn’t be either.

It’s also important to remember that this is a necessary medical visit. People with vaginas need to visit a gynecologist starting in their teenage years and then throughout their life. It’s imperative that you feel comfortable in your doctor’s office.

You don’t have to wear anything special or prepare for your visit. You should come as you are. Your doctor will treat you with care and compassion no matter what. They understand how sensitive this exam can be.
