Sleeping takes up almost one-third of the average person’s life. If you’re good at it, you sleep about eight hours per night. If you’re bad at it, you’re often miserable. Insomnia affects more than 30% of people at some point in their life, and roughly 10 million Americans use sleep aids or sleeping pills.
For some, the problem is just the sleep. For others, the problem is snoring. Snoring remedies are a multi-million dollar industry, and with good reason. Not everyone with a snoring problem has sleep apnea, but almost 20% of adults have at least a mild case of sleep apnea and a huge number of sleep apnea sufferers also snore.
Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder which causes a person to stop breathing multiple times over the course of a night. In severe cases, the person stops breathing as often as once per minute, which comes out to almost 400 times per night. The disorder includes an obstruction in the throat, which causes snoring.
While the apneas (times when the breathing stops) are the bigger problem, the more noticeable problem for partners of sleep apnea patients is the snoring. One of the most popular snoring remedies for sleep apnea sufferers is something called a CPAP machine. The CPAP effectively pushes air into the sleeping person’s airway — CPAP actually stands for “continuous positive airway pressure.” The CPAP is extremely effective and extremely popular, but it is not the only sleep apnea treatment or sleep disorder treatment.
More than one-third of people have some form of insomnia at some point in their lives. In many cases, this is caused by stress or anxiety. People who don’t sleep well often snore, and people who snore need snoring remedies. Sleep therapy centers, as a result, are commonplace in the United States. Dozens exist in most states and they treat almost any type of sleep disorder that a patient can come up with: from narcolepsy to jet lag disorder to REM behavior disorder. Medications, therapies, and education are important factors in treating those with sleeping issues.
There’s no single-fix for snoring and sleep disorders — there are multiple snoring remedies, but the CPAP machine is probably the best among them. For sleeping disorders, it will vary based on your disorder. Be sure to take care of your sleeping problems, because if you don’t, you’re substantially more likely to become obese or overweight. One thing leads to another, so nip it in the bud and research snoring remedies and solutions.
